Join our Group Financial Accounting & Controls Team, where you'll help shape a trusted and respected finance function. This role focuses on defining accounting policies, providing expert financial guidance to support the effective stewardship of the Group’s assets and delivery of strategic priorities and embedding control standards.

What will I be doing?

  • Provide expert guidance on technical accounting matters to the AA Group and Business Units, including the preparation of technical papers for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Draft new accounting policies and update existing policies, as and when required.
  • Support the monthly IFRS 17 close process and related End User Computing models from a technical accounting and process perspective.
  • Manage delivery of IFRS 17 accounting training to Finance team members and other internal stakeholders involved in the IFRS 17 close process.
  • Act as control operator / owner on financial controls requiring a technical accounting input, for example, review of impairment assessments, assessment of loss-making contracts.
  • Collaborate with Business Unit Finance, Group Risk, internal and external auditors and other third-party advisors on accounting and controls-related projects, including implementation of new standards, contract reviews, transformation programmes, analysis and review of legal entity level financial statements and the design, implementation and enhancement of processes and controls.
  • Support the annual Finance controls self-attestation workstream and the periodic testing of key controls, ensuring process documentation and risk assessments are updated as required and overseeing timely, effective remediation of any deficiencies identified.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across the business to promote a strong culture of technical excellence, financial control and accountability throughout the organisation.

What do I need?

Capability, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including IFRS 9, 15 and 16
  • Proven experience in financial risk, controls, and compliance
  • Background in audit, with a solid understanding of audit principles and practices
  • Familiarity with financial controls testing methodologies
  • Experience with SOX compliance frameworks (desirable)
  • Knowledge of insurance accounting, particularly IFRS 17 (desirable)

Education and Qualifications:

  • Professional qualification in finance ACCA, ACA, CIMA or similar.
