This is the job

  • Delivering high-quality, well-tested code that is modular and maintainable.
  • Designing and building scalable data pipelines to support the business needs.
  • Proactively identifying automation opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Helping to establish the Data Lakehouse as a trusted, stable and reliable source of insight across the AA.
  • Creating analytics datasets that use our data pipelines to deliver actionable insights into customer behaviour, operational performance and other key business metrics.
  • Demonstrating strong organisational skills and attention to detail in all aspects of your work.
  • Continuously striving for improvement by identifying issues, opportunities and ways to enhance processes.
  • Supporting users by triaging and responding to data-related incidents and queries in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Working in line with our technical architecture, documentation standards, and data governance policies, processes, and procedures.

What will I be doing?

Capability, Knowledge, and Experience

 

Technical Skills

 

  • Cloud technologies: Azure and its range of data related services.
  • Cloud data platforms: Experience in one or more of Databricks, Snowflake, RedShift, Azure Synapse.
  • Languages & tooling: Python and Terraform.
  • Architectures: Lakehouse design patterns, dimensional modelling and scalable data pipelines.
  • Ways of working: Agile delivery, CI/CD pipelines, Azure DevOps and Git-based workflows.

 

Collaboration and Relationships

 

  • Work with the wider Data team and the business to build a seamless and well-integrated data ecosystem, aligned with The AA’s needs, quality standards and service commitments.
  • Become a trusted member of the Data team.
  • Demonstrate credibility and always have straightforward professional communication, being transparent and open about challenges and successes.
  • Proven ability to balance the speed of delivery with the right long term technical solution, ensuring the platform is maintainable, scalable and secure.
  • Track record of using best practice. Has the ability to combine rigour and discipline with a pragmatic approach to deliver the highest quality, cost effective solutions within set time-frames
  • Interest and understanding of the external market, innovation and tech trends and how to best use these for the benefit of Data team

 

Technical Assurance

 

  • Assure that all the technical designs and solutions you build are fit for purpose and support the wider business and data strategy.
  • Look for continuous improvement of the data and analytics platform performance.
  • Best practices in data platform engineering are dear to your heart, but you are not dogmatic.
  • You have experience with numerous technology stacks and approach.

  • Degree qualified; preferably but not essential.
