As we continue to expand, diversify, and modernise, joining us as our Motor Underwriting Manager, you’ll play a key part to our success and join us on this exciting motoring journey.

This is the job

Join our team as our Motor Underwriting Manager, where you will oversee the technical underwriting of AA Motor products. Your role will involve shaping the underwriting footprint, providing expert insights for product reviews, and identifying new opportunities. You will also play a crucial role in making decisions on complex claims and underwriting referrals related to the Personal Motor book.

What will I be doing?

  • Collaborate with the Pricing team and Head of Underwriting to drive the profitable growth of AA UICL Motor products by developing underwriting strategies, risk appetites, and managing relationships with the AA broker (AAISL).
  • Identify opportunities to optimise Motor product performance through underwriting expertise, market knowledge, and data analysis.
  • Assist the Heads of Underwriting and Pricing in creating and delivering the business plan for the Motor book.
  • Develop and maintain advanced enrichment and underwriting controls.
  • Expand our motor footprint into niche market areas with higher average premiums.
  • Create anti-theft underwriting rules and theft prevention propositions.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Underwriting to understand and plan for new and emerging risks, and develop appropriate strategies.
  • Oversee the implementation, development, and profitability of ancillary products, providing internal and external performance reports.
  • Conduct regular product value reviews to ensure our products offer excellent value to customers.
  • Provide expert technical input into policy wordings, POS documentation, and product specifications.
  • Monitor and ensure the accuracy of rate releases following underwriting changes.
  • Support the development and expansion of future telematics schemes and our connected car strategy.
  • Oversee the Underwriting and Claims referral process, collaborating with the Claims and Counter-Fraud teams to address areas of concern proactively.
  • Conduct competitor analysis, considering past market trends and potential future scenarios.
  • Train and develop junior members of the underwriting team, and facilitate cross-training within the broader insurance functions.
