About the AA
The AA is the largest breakdown cover organisation in the UK and has been providing assistance to motorists since 1905. Other services and products include car insurance, maps, pub guides, travel guides, campsite guides, contents insurance, home insurance, atlases, holidays, B&B and hotel bookings, car checks, life insurance and Roadwatch. Free online services include the AA Route Planner, mileage calculator, weather forecast, car tax calculator, traffic news, walking routes, ideas for days out, cycle routes and travel ideas.
In addition, the public affairs group headed up the AA President, Edmund King, campaign on behalf of motorists on a range of matters such as car tax, petrol prices, road safety, clamping and young drivers.
In September 2007 the AA became part of the Acromas Group of companies.
Diversity
We are actually a surprisingly diverse organisation, with a number of market-leading businesses all under one umbrella. There's our nationwide Driving School, for a start. Financial services also make up a significant portion of our business: for example, we are the UK's biggest independent insurance broker, providing 1.6 million car, home and life insurance policies, and almost 120,000 loans every year. We also produce successful publications like hotel and restaurant guides, maps and route finders; not to mention road signs throughout the country.
On top of all this, the AA website is a treasure trove of motoring, travel and leisure information.
